The mummies
You may have seen living mummies in movies. Real mummies are
not alive like they're in the movies. When kings and queens died in ancient
Egypt, people made their bodies into mummies.
First the brain, liver and lungs were taken out. The brain, liver
and lungs were put into stone jars. The heart was usually left inside the body.
Special plants were put on the body. Then the body was
wrapped with long strips of cloth. A frame was put around the body. The frame
was painted with pictures.
In modern times, people found some mummies and took off the
strips of cloth. The mummies looked very much like the bodies had looked right
after the people died.
