Olympic Games

The Olympic Games are sportgames. Almost everybody likes it. Thousand people travel to the Olympic Games to watch and cheer their favorites. Millions people watch them on TV.

There are Winter Olympic Games and Summer Olympic Games. Winter sports are skiing, bob sledging. Summer sports are jumping, running, boxing, race, climbing etc.

More than 2,500 years ago in Greece people gathered every four years place called Olympia. In the beginning there was only one race the “stadion.” Soon other contest took place, such as wresting and boxing matches, jumping and other kinds of sports. The first winner in Olympic Games is Coroebus. In year 394 the Olympic Games in Greece ended. One thousand five hundred years later, in 1884 the first Olympic Games took place in Paris. The first modern Olympic began in Athens, Greece on April 5, 1896. Only 12 countries took part.
