Facts about Scotland


Scotland is located in the northern part of Great Britain. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh.Edinburgh is one of the biggest cities in Scotland. It is famous for the Edinburgh Festival, which is also one of the biggest festivals in the world.
 The Edinburgh Festival consists of several smaller festivals like The Arts Festival, The Jazz Festival, The Book Festival and The Military Tattoo. For those, who couldn't take part of the Edinburgh Festival is The Festival Fringe. In Festival Fringe there are lots of buskers but also lots of pickpockets.
 The biggest cities in Scotland are Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Aberdeen is the university city. It is in the north-east of Scotland.

 Scots speak two languages: the scottish-gaelic and english. The official language is english, but Scots are trying to bring back scottish-gaelic into schools.
 The symbol of Scotland is a thistle.
 Scottish flag has a blue background and white diagonal cross on it.
 The national music instrument is bagpipe.
 Scottish national costume is called kilt. Kilts are made of tartan. All Scots belong into a clan and each clan has it's own tartan pattern.
 Scottish national food is haggis. It's made of sheep's stomach.
 On the 25th of January, Scots celebrate Robert Burns's birthday. He was a great scottish poet.
 Very long time ago, Scots were called Picts. Picts had red hair and blond arms and they knew how to make ale out of heather.
 Scottish landscape is very attractive. There are lots of highlands, lowlands and heather moors. Scots keep a lot of sheep on the hillsides.
 In Scotland mountains, there are lots of little lakes called lochs. People believe that there is a mysterious monster living in one of the lochs. It is called The Loch Ness monster.
 Scots are very proud of their country.
