- Send the pig to Saxonland, wash it with soap; the hog returns and remains a hog.
- Where there is a lot of smoke, there is not always a fire.
Some phrases about Estonia and estonians:
- We can’t become big in numbers but we can, may and shall become big in soul. It means that we have to do good things, less things but better.
- We think of ourselves as quite despiteful and stubborn people.
- Estonians think that their language is a most beautiful in the world. There is a myth that Estonian language got second place in language competition with sentence “Sõida tasa üle silla”. Winner was Italy.
- Our population has reached the level of immortality. We may be killed, but we do not die out spontaneously.
- We are afraid of deciding things ourselves. We always need a direction or example. We are afraid of all new and unknown. First we prod with a stick and when it does not bite, we maybe stroke.
- An Estonian tries to do everything on his own and wrongly, instead of following directions and doing it correctly.
- Estonians do not like to chat, their conversations about politics, health or money are more serious than polite conversations known in different cultures.
- The knowledge of non-verbal conversation is quite poor among Estonians. It is said that Estonians do not smile and people walking in the street have very serious looks. But it is not only our problem. The same may be said about Finns and other nations.
- Estonians imagine that work is something good in itself.
- Our desire of spaciousness, privacy and freedom is great. Our houses are built as far from each other as possible.
- No woman in Estonia seems to be satisfied with her appearance - her bust, her weight, her cellulite or folds of fat. That is why we have excellent recipes of different diets to read during the breakfast.
- Estonians have no purpose to divorce. They must live with the wisdom of elderly couple and stay together. Because it would not be better if you change the partners and it is not easy to get used to the habits of the new mate.
- Estonians like to argue. We argue even if we know that we are not right.
- We consider ourselves to be great singers, dancers and musicians, so that if we start a piece of music, everyone hearing it will fall on all fours with astonishment. But then it turns out that nobody is interested in us and there are musicians in other places too.
- Estonians cannot stand stress. We are in the van of Europe in suicides, psychiatric and heart diseases. (by proportional index???) At least something in what we are the first!
- We lack sense of shame until others don’t get to know about our mistake. Guilty feelings don’t exist among Estonians.
- Estonian's favourite dish is another Estonian.
- The women of Estonia always carry a mirror with them to keep eye on themselves.
- We are critical to those whom we love not to those whom we despise. An Estonian is a maximalist he wants good to be better and bad to be worst.
- An Estonian is nice, wise and good. He works a lot to own THINGS. A good-looking young babe is also considered to be a thing.
- Estonians like to connect personal life and work. There is nothing more practical than to invite your business partner to your home for a dinner.
- We cannot say if Estonians have as much intellect as other nations but for sure we have not so much unreason.
- Estonians are brave and are not afraid of refusals, because we are all refused from time to time.
- If anyone else doesn’t work, he is lazy. If an Estonian leaves a work undone, he is busy.
- If anyone else criticises anybody or anything, he is dissatisfied. If an Estonian criticises, it is for purpose.
- If anyone else has his own opinion, he is obstinate. If an Estonian has his own opinion, he is resolute.
- If anyone else needs a lot of time to do something, he is slow. If an Estonian does something slowly, he is careful.
- If anyone else is polite to Estonians, he has a hidden purpose. If an Estonian is nice to others, he is simply showing good will.
- If anyone else does more than asked, he is a careerist. If an Estonian does the same, he is a man of spirit.
- If anyone else demands his rights, he is selfish. If an Estonian stands for his rights, it shows his strong sense of justice.
- If anyone else feels bad he is a simulator. If an Estonian doesn’t feel well, he is ill.
- If a foreigner doesn’t ask Estonians opinion, he is impolite. If an Estonian forgets to ask his opinion, it is absent-mindedness.
